Announcing the first new pop-up ‘Science Gallery Lab’, in partnership with Michigan State University
Acting as a bridge between downtown Detroit and the Michigan State University campus, Science Gallery Lab Detroit will open its doors in 2017.

Science Gallery Labs are a new addition to the existing Global Science Gallery Network, which currently has locations in Dublin, London, Melbourne, Bengaluru and Venice. Each Science Gallery Lab will be a three-year long community-led programme with a rapid development cycle, agile operations and strong social goals. Featuring participative experiences aimed at 15-25 year olds, Science Gallery Labs will blend art, science, and technology to ensure access to STEAM-related content and conversations for local young people.

We are incredibly excited of the pivotal role of Michigan State University to keep pushing the boundaries of the whole Network.” said Dr. Andrea Bandelli, Executive Director of Science Gallery International. “We believe in the creative potential of young people to tackle some of the world’s biggest problems. We are very excited that our first Lab will be in North America and we are striving to share the Lab model in Latin America and Africa in the near future.”

Speaking in advance of today’s announcement, Michigan State University Provost June Pierce Youatt said: "This is the next generation of outreach and engagement for the land-grant university, a new interpretation that isn't about providing answers, but about working alongside others to formulate big questions and spark new ways of answering them. Science Gallery is for both the curious and those who have never had an opportunity to be introduced to science in ways that caused them to be curious. Science Gallery uses all the ways we think, all the ways we explore, and all the ways we play to encourage learning—and MSU is proud to bring this experience to Detroit.”
